Activities

With 50+ youth, we are a very active Troop. In addition to our weekly meetings, our Scouts typically plan 2-3 activities a month. None of our events are required, however, you only get out of Scouting what you put into it. So the more events a youth attends, the more they learn and enjoy scouting.

High Adventure

One unique aspect of Scouting is our high adventure programs. Scouting America has four dedicated high adventure programs: Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier High Adventure Base, Summit Bechtel Reserve, and Philmont Scout Ranch.

Troop 148 makes it a priority to offer at least one high adventure trip a year to our members. Some recent high adventure trips include:

  • Philmont Scout Ranch

  • Florida Sea Base

  • canoeing the Boundary Waters in Minnesota

  • sailing at Pamlico Sea Base in North Carolina

  • hiking and rocking climbing in the Red River Gorge in Kentucky

  • whitewater rafting in Smoky Mountain National Park

  • whitewater rafting in the New Gorge River in West Virginia.

Camping

When most people think of Scouting, they think of camping. With good reason, because our scouts love to camp! Troop 148 aims for at least one campout a month throughout the year.

Some places we have camped recently include:

  • Blue Springs Cavern

  • Camp Louis Ernst

  • Camp Riverdale

  • Deam Wilderness

  • Marengo Cave

  • Martin State Forest

  • Maumee Scout Reservation

  • McCormick’s Creek

  • Morgan-Monroe State Park

  • Paoli Peaks

  • Raccoon Lake

  • Shades State Park

  • Shakamak State Park

  • Sugar Creek State Park

  • Spring Mill State Park

  • Tecumseh Trail

Outings

But there is more to scouts than camping. We like to mix things up with other engaging informational, educational, and fun outdoor activities, including hiking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, tubing, skiing, spelunking, orienteering, doing high ropes courses, and even visiting theme parks like Holiday World!
