Flag Retirement Ceremony

The staff at Bloomington’s Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park contacted Scout BSA Troop 148 because the American flag flying over their campground had deteriorated to a condition that was no longer a fitting emblem for display, according to the United States Code § 7. On Saturday, September 9, 2023, several scouts traveled to Jellystone Park to conduct a traditional flag retirement ceremony wherein they solemnly laid the flag to rest upon a blazing fire, burning it thoroughly until it was reduce to ashes unrecognizable as a former flag.

Flag retirement is just one service that Scouts BSA offers for free to organizations within their community.
