Washington DC Trip

The week of March 12-19, 2022, 9 scouts and 5 adults traveled to Washington DC. While in DC, the troop visited many monuments and historic sites, including the White House, the Washington Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery, including getting to watch the changing of the guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They also got to visit a few museums, including the National Air and Space Museum, where they saw cool historical aircraft like the Enola Gay.

During the Gettysburg portion of the trip, the troop visited the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, got to explore parts of the historic battleground, including Cemetery Hill, Culp Hill, and Little Round Top, and visit the Eternal Light Peace Memorial.

Though the cold and snowy weather was not quite what they expected for Spring Break, and the first night of camping had to be moved to a hotel because the campground was underwater, the troop rolled with the punches and had a fantastic time. They got to work on their Citizen of the Nation merit badges, ride the DC metro several times, eat street food, and, perhaps the most fun of all, enjoyed swimming in the hotel’s indoor swimming pool!
