Winter Rendezvous

The Troop got a late start to the 30th annual Winter Rendezvous at Maumee Scout Reservation due to a weather related school closure. So early morning Saturday, January 20, 2024, 12 scouts and 2 adults bunded up and gathered before sunrise to drive out to camp in order to participate in the cold weather competitions and brave a record breaking Winter Rendezvous low temperature of -5 degrees Fahrenheit! Luckily despite the freezing temps, the skies were sunny, the wind was at a minimum, and the scouts were well prepared, meaning not a single person experienced hypothermia or frost bite! However, the 300+ scouts at the event did have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to “Be Prepared” in cold weather when the pipes froze in the dining hall! Luckily, the pipes in the OA basement remained unscathed, meaning they were able to schlep water up to the dining hall to keep the coffee and hot chocolate flowing! Upon their return on Sunday afternoon, the scouts proudly related their tales of braving the elements and earning their Polar Bear awards!
