April 4-6, Troop 148 will head down to the historic Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, Indiana, for a weekend of history and nature. Known for its lush hiking trails and limestone caves, the park is also home to the Pioneer Village, a recreation of an early settlers' village featuring 20 historic buildings centered around an authentic three-story limestone gristmill. Built in 1817, the mill is still grinding corn today!
While exploring the buildings, scouts can chat with the park's heritage interpreters as they demonstrate period crafts and recreate daily life in a 19th-century settlement. Additionally, scouts can visit the Gus Grissom Memorial in the park’s Visitor Center, which honors one of NASA’s original Mercury Seven astronauts.
