Turkey Run State Park, located in Parke County in the west-central part of the state is Indiana's second largest state park and is known for it’s amazing hiking trails.
It gets it’s name, Turkey Run, for the wild turkeys that would congregate for warmth in the gorges during the pioneering times, making it easy for settlers to trap and hunt them.
The park, which draws approximately 700,000 visitors annually, is on the National Register of Historic Places, boasting historical sites such as The Lusk Home and Mill Site, the Richard Lieber Log Cabin, and the Turkey Run Inn built in 1919; these are in addition to its robust system of trails, the Rocky Hollow Falls Canyon Nature Preserve, a suspension bridge across Sugar Creek, campground, and other recreational areas.
