Philmont Prep: Delaney Creek Park

On Saturday, April 20, 2024, 8 members of Philmont 2024 Crew 720-7C, including scouts from Troop 148 and 100, gathered at a trailhead at Delaney Creek Park in Scottsburg, IN for a 20-mile hike and campout to prepare for their upcoming July trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. With full packs, the scouts got to experience a snippet of what life will be like during their 7-day south west hiking excursion, including navigating the trail, persevering through fatigue, learning when to take a break, and continuing to build their camaraderie.

Ahead of the campout, scouts practiced planning and packing trail appropriate meals that they were able to cook and enjoy while on the trail, including BBQ Mac & Cheese, Backcountry Pad Thai, and Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal.

The crew came back exhilarated and looking forward to their next prep outing!
