Summer Camp 2024

On Sunday, June 16, 2024, 18 scouts and 3 adult volunteers caravanned out to Maumee Scout Reservation in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest for a week of summer camp, an annual experience packed with merit badge classes, working on advancement requirements, and endless opportunities for adventure! But summer camp at MSR is more than just a series of planned activities—it's always a time for scouts to immerse themselves in the beauty of the great outdoors, forge new friendships, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Despite the sweltering temperatures, which hovered in the high 80s and low 90s all week, the scouts kept cool and refreshed with frequent dips in Lake Tarzian and even more frequent trips to the camp store for ice cream and slushies. The new bath house on the west ridge also provided a much-appreciated respite from the heat for the scouts and a much-appreciated respite from teenage body odor for the adult volunteers!

On Thursday, friends and family journeyed out to camp to enjoy pizza and a potluck of desserts for Parents’ Night. Then, after dinner, the troop hiked over to the OA circle where Sammy and Logan were tapped into the Order of the Arrow in recognition of their demonstrated leadership, dedication to scouting, and service to their community.

It is no exaggeration to say Troop 148’s annual summer camp trip was a resounding success! In addition to being named Honor Troop, 148 also won 1st place in the Gaga Ball Tournament and won the Gateway competition. Plus, Peter won the fastest youth for the 1-mile swim, Gabe won the biggest first in camp award, and Jeff won the shot gun shoot contest! And this is all in addition to participating in the Campfire program and Flag program, earning a combined 91 Merit Badges, and seeing 3 scouts earn their 1-mile swim award!

The cost to attend MSR Summer Camp 2024 was $375, but the memories and experiences gained by going are priceless!
